Honda 200 changes
At the last club meeting the class structure was changed to add more groups. We now have five groups:
Junior 1, age range of 7/11 with a weight limit of 240lb
Junior 2, age range of 12/15 with a weight limit of 305lb
Senior light, age 15 and up with a weight limit of 305lb
Senior, age 15 and up with a weight limit of 345lb
Master, age 15 and up with a weight limit of 385lb

The rules for the class are being worked over and we will have a new set before the winter series. The only rule change from the last meeting is that all starts will be standing starts from now on.

Honda 200
If you have ever wanted to race or have given up racing because it cost too much come out to Evergreen Speedway and see what the Honda 200 kart class is all about.  The class uses a stock 200 cc Honda motor and the karts go about 60 mph. They run all day on a gallon of pump gas and most of the Honda's run about 3 years before a rebuild is needed. The average used kart ready to run cost about $1000 and up and one set of tires lasts about 1 year of racing. The races are at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe Washington on Wednesday evenings. You can practice starting at noon and the racing starts at 6pm.
If you are interested please give me a call for any info on the class or costs, ages are from 9 to 90 years old.

What is a Go-Kart?

A Go-Kart is a small four-wheeled vehicle. There are many different styles and types of Go-Karts such as Indoor Karts, Two-Seaters, Amusement park karts, Go-Karts with Electric motors, Superkarts, Gravity Racers and more.

What is the difference between a 2-stroke engine vs a 4-stroke engine?
A two-stroke engine is an internal combustion engine that completes the process cycle in one revolution of the crankshaft (an up stroke and down stroke of the piston), compared to twice that number for the 4-strock engine.

In general 2-stroke is usually faster but has less power at lower speeds.  4-stroke has more power but the karts are not as fast. 2-stroke engines are generally less efficient with gas and with 2-stroke you have to mix gasoline and an oil made especially for the kart. 2-stroke is the most popular.

How do I get into karting?
Come out to the track and go into the pits, do not forget to get a pit pass. Talk to the people that run different classes and see what class you are peaks you're interested. Karters love to talk.

What is the cost?
That depends on what class you want to get into and if you buy new or used. The lease expense class is the Honda 200 four-stroke class. You may be able to find a used Kart for $2000 new $4000. The most expense class would be the stock shifter class you may be able to find a used Kart for $5000 and a new on for $9000.

Karting as a stepping stone:
Karting is usually a low costs and safe way to introduce drivers to motor racing.  Karting is considered the first step in a serious racing career.  Karting helps to develop quick reflexes, precision car control and decision making skills.  It also makes drivers aware of variables such as tire pressure, gearing, seat position that also exist in other motorsports.

What are some names of Go-Kart Manufactures?
Rotax, Tony Kart, Honda, Anderson Racing Karts, Gillard, H.C. Evans, Margay Products Inc., PVP Karting, Rupp Industries.
